Have you ever visited a lighthouse at night? Our neighbor from North Kingstown, David Zapatka certainly has. As the Director of Photography for the United States Lighthouse Society, he’s approaching his 250th lighthouse he’s visited at night to document them for future generations to appreciate. Many lighthouses are now being divested by our government, are being decommissioned, and turned off before being captured at night on film.

Discussing many of his nighttime adventures, David’s talk will be about his odyssey starting in 2013 on the nearby Dutch Island Lighthouse in Jamestown, through his more recent Texas and the southeastern states of South Carolina, Georgia and Florida lighthouse night photography trips. A life-long Rhode Islander, David is also the president of the Friends of Plum Beach Lighthouse and conceived the ubiquitous lighthouse license plates in 2010. He’s an accomplished veteran cameraman having worked at the network level for 40 years, picking up nine Emmy awards along the way. It should make for an interesting evening!
