A Makerspace is the place in the library to put your knowledge to the test by creating and making, where the theoretical meets the practical, a high tech arts and crafts station, or just a place to see and try out some cool new technology. Feel free to stop by during open hours to check us out, and don’t be afraid to try something new.

Makerspace Policy
General Policy:
● The space is first and foremost meant to supplement the educational enrichment provided by the library. To develop theoretical skills and knowledge, into the practical form through practice and experimentation. To foster skills in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. Our main intent is for creativity and collaboration to be at the forefront of all that we do.
● Behavior that is deemed inappropriate or objectionable by the staff may lead to suspension or ban from the makerspace.
● Children under the age of 18 may not use this space without a parental guardian.
● The staff is here to teach you how to use the space and machines. They are not obligated to make or create something for you.
● Machines and materials are limited. It is first come first serve.
● Items created in this space must follow US copyright laws.
● Destruction or mishandling of the materials or equipment will not be tolerated.
● Disrespect to the staff or fellow patrons will not be tolerated.
● You are responsible for cleaning your own mess before leaving.
Free Material Limits:
● DVD’s used in the VHS to DVD conversion cost $1.
● All other materials are free to use in the space. However, the staff reserves the right to initiate charges in the event of a project that requires either excessive material or machine use in order to cover the cost.
Project Policy:
● Patrons may ask for assistance from staff, but the staff are not required to create the project for them.
● Patrons may not leave their personal projects or materials in the makerspace overnight unless given permission by staff.
● Patrons may provide their own materials for their personal projects.
● Projects can only be worked in the Makerspace during Walk in hours.
VHS/ DVD converter policy:
● No video or film of graphic or inappropriate, or copyrighted material may be used.
● The charge for the DVDs is 1$.
Cricut Policy:
● Users cannot cut anything inappropriate.
Heat and Mug Press Policy:
● Patrons under the age of 13 may not operate these machines without staff supervision.
3D Printing Policy:
● Files printed on the 3D printer must be a .stl or .obj.
● If someone already has a print in process it may not be interrupted except by staff.
● Users cannot print anything inappropriate or that would endanger themselves or others. The staff have the right to refuse any patrons’ prints.
● Users cannot print anything that would require overnight printing without permission from staff.
● The library currently only has PLA filament available for use, and in limited colors.
● The printer may only be used to print with PLA, ABS, or PETG filament. Any
filament not owned by the library must be approved by a staff member before printing.
Safety:
● No open toed shoes in the makerspace.
● Ensure that all jewelry, clothing, or hair is secured while operating the machines.
● Keep your hands away from the machines while they are in operation. If there is a critical failure in the machine, inform a staff member and they will attend to it.
● If an injury happens in the space, inform a staff member immediately so that they may assist you.
● Machines or tools that are broken should not be used. If you think a machine or
tool is broken, inform a staff member so they may handle it.
● If you are unsure how to safely use a machine or tool in the space, or feel unsafe in the operation of it, ask a staff member for help. We don’t bite!
